Dreamseller [9/?]

Title: Dreamseller
Author: midnightcancer
Pairing: Gerard/Frank + Gerard/OMC
Rating: NC-17
Warning: language, sexual situations, death, drugs
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters – just the plot.
Summary: His smile is wide and bright so long as the curtains are open. Once they close, however, he turns into someone else – a person different from any of the characters he plays on stage. He turns into himself.
A/N: Look at this fucking update. Look at how timely it is.

Gerard promised Frank that being drug would not be a regular thing. He did not, however, say anything about being high – so Gerard saw no harm in doing a few lines after receiving the call that Frank was on his way. By the time Gerard’s new friend did arrive, he was just one line away from being out of his mind.

“Frank,” muttered Gerard upon answering the door. “Come here.”

Pulling on the janitor’s arm, Gerard drags Frank into his apartment before closing the door and pushing him into the direction of the living room.

“I can walk, you know,” Frank points out – but Gerard disregards the statement. Instead, he keeps pushing Frank into the living room, not stopping until he’s shoved Frank onto the sofa.

“A little pushy,” mutters Frank.

Ignoring this statement as well, Gerard flops down on the couch next to Frank and lets himself fall against the shorter man’s shoulder. It’s a rather awkward position, considering the difference in heights, but Gerard manages well enough.

“Can I ask what you’re doing?” Frank inquires after a moment.

“Hanging out with you,” Gerard answers simply with a shrug.

Giving the taller man a long look, Frank then asks, “Are you drunk again?”

“Nope,” Gerard replies. “I said I wouldn’t be. I am a little high, though.”

Gerard saw Frank’s face – saw that expression of disapproval in response to his confession. But he didn’t give it a second thought. Instead, he nuzzled farther into Frank’s shoulder – but perhaps too far. At one point Gerard slipped and ended up collapsing in Frank’s lap. He didn’t move from this position, however. He stayed right where he was, nestled in the small crevice of Frank’s slightly parted legs.

“So I get that we established our friendship yesterday and everything,” Frank starts. “But let’s not rush the skinship, okay?”

In a vain attempt to get the drugged man out of his lap, Frank starts to push at Gerard’s body – though he doesn’t move. He rocks back and forth a time or two but otherwise stays in his place.

“Please get out of my lap,” Frank says. There’s a hint of desperation in his tone – an expression of “this is just too weird for me.”

But here’s something Frank does not realize: the only other friend – for lack of a better word – that Gerard has is the producer, and they are rather close. In their friendship turned relationship, they are touchy-feely with each other. Gerard never had friends before Frank and the producer. It isn’t fault if he doesn’t realize that skinship isn’t the customary thing for a new, not yet blooming friendship.

“Stop it, Frank,” mutters Gerard. “You’re going to make me seasick.”

“You stop it,” Frank snaps back. “Get the fuck off of me!”

Not playing around any longer, Frank gives Gerard one last shove and the man is rolling onto the floor, hitting his head against the coffee table in the process.

“Owwww!” Gerard whines. Rubbing at the spot that was injured and looking up at Frank, he asks, “What the hell was that for?”

Frank doesn’t respond right away. He merely looks down at Gerard – stares at Gerard – and wonders: what is with this guy?

Upon meeting Gerard, he seemed like a pretty cool guy at first. Although paranoid, still pretty nice. But the more encounters he had with Gerard – the more he got to know Gerard, if you will – the more he started to realize that Gerard isn’t quite right. He’s needy, he’s vulnerable, and clearly dependent on substance abuse. He also doesn’t seem to know what boundaries are. Maybe it’s a theater thing caused by so much interaction with cast members – he couldn’t really know for sure because he’s just a janitor. He also happens to be a rather stable human being so he knows that the man lying on the floor in front of him is just not okay. He’s not okay and he has problems and it’s something Frank isn’t sure he wants to get involved in.

Maybe agreeing to spend time with Gerard wasn’t such a good idea after all.

Sighing, Frank gets to his feet and says, “I think you need some rest.” He reaches out a hand, expecting Gerard to take it, but he doesn’t. Waving it in front of the actor, Frank adds, “Come on, I’ll help you to your room.”

“But I want to hang out with you,” Gerard says. “I want to spend time with you.”

“Perhaps some other day.”

A day when he’s not so screwed up.

Since Gerard isn’t taking Frank’s hand, Frank takes it upon himself to grip the actor by the wrist and tug on his arm until Gerard is standing. Once on his feet, Frank walks with the man, following him to the door of his room. Gerard enters but Frank stays by the door. He won’t leave until he sees Gerard in his bed. But, just as Gerard sits down and sinks into the many blankets strewn across the mattress, he looks over at Frank and asks, “We were supposed to hang out today.”

“We were,” agrees Frank. “But you need some rest.”

“Then come rest with me.”

Frank shakes his head and firmly states, “No.”

Crawling into bed with someone – friend or not – is just something Frank does not do. Especially when that someone – that friend – was just nuzzling their lap not even five minutes before.

“Please, Frank,” Gerard whines. “We’re supposed to spend today hanging out. You can rest with me.”

“I’m not lying in bed with you, Gerard,” Frank says. “It’s not happening.”

Gerard looks frustrated but he’s not giving up.

“Get a chair then,” he says. It’s not that he wants Frank to be in bed with him. He just wants to hang out. It doesn’t matter where Frank is in the room so long as he’s there.

“Fine,” Frank mutters after a long moment. “I’ll get a chair from the kitchen and bring it in.”

As long as his body isn’t in contact with Gerard’s, Frank’s okay with still hanging out with the other man.

Gerard waits patiently for Frank’s return. He’s propped his head up on his hand, using his arm to hold himself up, and looks at the door expectantly. When he sees Frank appear, he smiles. It fades, however, when Frank doesn’t smile back. Instead, he gives him the same look a frustrated and exhausted mother would to a child who’s being a handful.

But Gerard supposes that’s exactly what he is right now: a handful.

“I’m sorry I’m like this,” Gerard says softly. “I don’t mean to be so annoying. I can’t help it.”

“I’m sure if you tried, you could,” Frank says back. It’s possible that he rolled his eyes.

“It’s harder than you think,” Gerard continues. “Like, I’m lonely, you know?”

Frank raises his eyebrows, slightly shocked at the man’s honesty. Frank’s been lonely before too, but it’s not something he openly admitted to anyone. It might have something to do with the lack of drugs in his system at the time. He never got drunk or high the way Gerard does.

“Everyone gets lonely,” Frank says. “But that doesn’t mean you should go getting wasted and trashed and fucked up.”

“I can’t help it,” Gerard says again.

If Frank tells Gerard to “try” one more time then he might just have to punch something – preferably the wall, but he couldn’t make any promises.

It’s not as easy as it looks. It’s not all fun and games, getting drunk and high. The people who do it for recreational purposes are idiots – and they’ll realize that as soon as it becomes an addiction. Gerard never did it because it was cool. He never did it just to socialize. He did it because there was nothing else to do. He didn’t have any friends and the only “friend” he did have was abusive in every possible way. Drugs and alcohol is what a person turns to when there’s nowhere else to turn.

But all that’s changed, hasn’t it? The producer isn’t Gerard’s only friend. He has a new one. One that isn’t abusive. One that might actually care – care enough to tell him to try to quit his addiction.

“I’ll try if you help me,” Gerard says after a long moment.

“Help you,” Frank repeats, and Gerard nods.

“Like… Help me by giving me support… And stuff. Like, if I’m struggling, you know, you could maybe… Talk to me? I could call you and you could distract me. That sort of thing.”

In other words: Gerard wants Frank to be his twelve step program coordinator.

“Sure, Gerard,” Frank finally says after a moment of consideration. “I’ll help you.”

Gerard smiles.

Content with the knowledge that he has a friend that will help him rather than hurt him, Gerard lets himself drop onto the bed. He pulls the covers up over himself and turns over so that Frank is in his view. Although the conversation has since ceased, Gerard’s content with just being with his friend. Frank doesn’t mind the silence either, so he doesn’t speak.

Because of the silence and comfort of his bed, Gerard eventually drifts off to sleep. This is something he usually doesn’t do – sleeping in front of people. Usually the only person he has the chance to fall asleep in front of is the producer and he doesn’t let himself sleep in front of that man for obvious reasons, but Gerard trusts Frank. He trusts that Frank won’t do anything to him – like take him in his sleep.

Gerard also trusted that Frank, as a friend, would be there for him. In a more than figurative “I need someone’s shoulder to cry on” kind of way. He trusted that when he woke up, Frank would be there.

But he wasn’t. Frank wasn’t anywhere to be found when Gerard woke up. The chair that he was sitting in was still there, but Frank was not. Instead, in Frank’s place, was the producer.

Oh my god Gerard, you pure waster. He's lovely and all that, but still, a bit of a needy guy I guess, and I felt sorry for Frank, because he's so caring and sweet and beautiful and Gerard just isn't helping the situation in any way.

Cry. I'm fine,

But seriously, I love this fic, it's amazing! And although I don't like the producer, he's probably one of my favourite characters, if that makes sense?

I've said it a thousand times, but you're amazing, I love you lots! <3

I kind of wanted him to be a needy guy. Like, I want him to be that strongheaded type that just doesn't give a fuck but, at the same time, I want him to be really weak at bad moments. So he's good when everything's good but REALLY bad when shit gets bad as well. So it's either he's good or just really fucked up.

HE'S THERE BECAUSE REASONS /shifty eyes/ >__>

He's actually my favorite character too, to be quite honest OTL It's that antagonist you love to hate and hate to love but just can't help it and it's his mystery that gives him charm, I think.

"Drugs and alcohol is what a person turns to when there’s nowhere else to turn."

Correction, Music is what a person turns to when there's nowhere else to turn.
Apr. 8th, 2012 03:48 am (UTC)
At least, it's what I turn to :)
May. 3rd, 2012 01:48 pm (UTC)
Realistically, people turn to drugs more often than they do music. Gerard himself was an alcoholic. He was doing music too, sure, but he was still drinking a whole lot.
May. 3rd, 2012 08:16 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I know, and I kind of regret saying that. I guess I meant that music is what people should turn to, and is what I always will turn to.
May. 8th, 2012 10:36 pm (UTC)
It's all good :D

Frank. Gerard Way is nuzzling in your lap, and you are ANNOYED? Meh, to each his own. xD

Aw. poor needy Gerard. He just needs somebody to love (cue Justin Bieber) lol no, but a friend would be nice.

May. 3rd, 2012 01:44 pm (UTC)

If people hate the producer now (which I'm sure they do) they're especially going to hate him tons more in the next update~ (Which will be going up once I'm done replying to comments :D)
